Volcanic ash took over the World

European airports were closed almost totally for couple of weeks in April 2010, due to Iceland’s volcanic ash. This caused worldwide halt on the air travel.

This caused huge amount of trouble for international business. For example, manufacturers that have offshore development centers and manufacturing sites, were not able to perform planned reviews for new releases, because either people involved or goods to be reviewed were not able to be transported to the desired destination.

Video conferencing is of course an existing alternative for air travel. The standard tools that video conferencing offers, are just not adequate for the needs of e.g. component reviews, where small details of a sample should be able to view & share.

Apple’s new tablet – supersized iTouch

Just few moments ago, Apple revealed its newest gadget, which is called iPad. The tablet is equipped with a large touch panel display, which itself is a definitive part of a user-friendly ensemble. There were lots of rumors about something new and earthmoving, that would be a part of iPad’s user interface. The reality is here now, and the iPad is only a supersized iTouch. But don’t get me wrong; as the user experience of iTouch was unique, we can expect the same from iPad.

At the very moment of revealing this new device, Apple did set new requirement for capturing and measuring User Experience (UX). The iPad’s UX relies strongly on sensing the position of the device, and – naturally – tapping and sweeping the display. OptoFidelity is ready for this challenge with its WatchDog technology. WatchDog can be equipped with various triggering methods, including those needed for Apple’s technology.

User Experience meets OptoFidelity

User experience (UX) quality is a hot topic. Especially the usability of mobile terminals, which could be seen on Nokia’s announcement on Nokia Capital Markets Day on 2.12.2009: Nokia is going to gain lots of development effort on Symbian o/s user experience by means of improving its accuracy and speed.

OptoFidelity has developed tools for measuring the UX. These include OptoFidelity WatchDog for measuring UI latencies and update intervals, and AV100 for measuring Perceptual Video Quality.
